Maya Kilic is a mixed-media artist working within the field of digital photography, video and animation. Based in Sydney, Kilic’s work playfully explores personal narratives regarding belonging and feminine identity in relation to popular culture, internet culture, adolescence, dreams and fantasy.
Maya completed a Bachelor of Design in Photography & Situated Media (Honours) at UTS in 2020.
Kilic's work often creates surreal and imaginative tableaus by blending digital manipulation with performance and traditional imagery. Her work is characterized as playful, featuring digital collage and motion tracking to explore the boundaries between reality and fabrication. Notable projects include Great Escapes, OverAbundance, and Making It? . Her video work Everywhere and Nowhere (2018) explores the complexities of being a "third-cultured person" with Indian, Turkish, Singaporean, and Australian heritage.
Her work has been exhibited at various galleries in Sydney, including the UTS Gallery and Cement Fondu, and featured in publications such as Vogue Living Australia and articles on Magnum Photos' website.
